A few short years ago DVDs ruled everything porn. Watch adult movies from the privacy of my own home? Yes please! No more gassing up the car, driving to some sleazy theater and having to sit among trench coat clad men and wonder what that is under your seat.
Everything was good; porn was becoming mainstream. Couples could enjoy porn together; some of the porn iron curtain was being lifted. All things great for the industry; until...
The internet! Oh, the dreaded internet. The first thing anyone searched on their dial up network was definitely one of the following: porn, sex, boobs, etc., etc., etc. The other thing? People didn't mind throwing down their credit card to see some tits! Times were good. Anyone with a slight knowledge of the internet could make a buck or two.
Next thing you know tiny thumbnail photos of a boob that took 15 minutes to actually appear on your screen were being replaced by actual sex videos. High speed home internet was making watching videos easy. No more need for DVDs, just throw down your credit card online and Voila! Instant spank bank material!
Most production companies saw this and realized they could still make money. Cut up the existing DVDs into short scenes and sell them off. Things were still good.
Enter tube sites. These sites have long been what production company's nightmares are made of. All of that content that people were paying for? Free! Load up one of many, many sites out there and now...FREE PORN!
These are just a few of the ups and downs (or, I guess, ins and outs might be more apropos) of the industry. Things have remained calm(ish) until now.
The next iteration of the internet is upon us and it is Virtual Reality and 3D. Oculus Rift has, so far, been the device that has made the most noise.
This is the Oculus Rift device. Worn over your head and similar to a binocular it puts you right into any scene. If you have access to the device I recommend downloading Blue Marble to see how immersive this experience really is.
Adult-film streaming service SugarDVD has announced that it is working on an Oculus app that will stream adult movies and content for the device.
Many other adult companies are working on games and apps that are Oculus compatible. Here is a small list of some of the games available now.
I am going to make it my mission to try and review as many of these games as I can as well as try and talk to the developers and people in the know in this arena. Check back often for lots of exciting things to come.
